Infection Prevention Led Implementation of an Antimicrobial Stewardship Program in a Community Hospital

      BACKGROUND: According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, up to 50% of all antibiotic use is unnecessary, leading to patient harm and antimicrobial resistance, and can be prevented through facility-based antimicrobial stewardship. Infection Prevention (IP) was asked to lead the implementation of an Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP) in a 171-bed community hospital.
