BACKGROUND: Infection prevention (IP) is a critical component of the healthcare delivery system.
Comprehensive IP programs can reduce infection rates in LTCF where residents are vulnerable
to infections and antimicrobial utilization is high. LTCF have long been mandated
to have IP programs but the content and effectiveness of such programs are unknowns.
We describe findings from a public health-based project to assess IP capacity in LTCF.
